Horatio Alger Association National and State Scholarships

Program Description: 

All Scholars will be required to participate in a College Success Program throughout their senior year of high school. The main goal of the College Success Program is to support Scholars throughout the college admissions process and prepare them to thrive during their first year of college and beyond.

Our Scholar Services Coordinators will facilitate the College Success Program, and we will focus on the following topics throughout the program:

  • School Selection
  • Getting Into College
  • FAFSA
  • Making a Decision & Academics In College
  • Scholarship Search & Time Management
  • Paying for College & Personal Financial Literacy
  • Career Exploration
  • Decision Day & Getting Involved
  • Personal Wellness

Time Commitment:

The College Success Program will begin with one 90-minute orientation in August. Our team will offer multiple orientation sessions. All awarded, Scholars will need to register for and attend one of these orientation sessions.

After orientation, Scholars are expected to commit 5 hours per month to this program. This program will traditionally runs from September to the following June and will consist of:

  • Monthly live sessions facilitated by a Scholar Services Coordinator
  • College-prep assignments submitted to the Association

Attendance Policy:

If you are awarded and accept the Horatio Alger Scholarship, you will agree to complete the College Success Program (CSP). Scholars will be required to attend one monthly session traditionally running from September to the following June. All sessions are mandatory. In order to receive your funding, you must complete the College Success Program in its entirety.
